The very first thing we are going to have you do is run the system restore feature. This may or may not work. The goal is to send your computer back in time to when you were not infected. If you were just infected then go back two weeks. If you were infected a month ago then go back two weeks from the date of the infection. This will work on XP and Vista. If you have 2K or 98 then just buy a new computer. Seriously it’s time to update!!!! To run system restore slect “START > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. Then click next and choose a date. In Vista you will need to click the button on the bottom to show more dates. By default only 5 are shown. XP by default shows a Callander so that should be a no brainer. Let your computer run the restore. It will auto reboot. Once you get a confirmation that the restore worked then shut the computer down. IF the restore failed try a few differnet dates. One of them shold work. If not or if system restore has been shut off then just move onto the next section.

Now that your computer has been restored and off. You need to boot into safemode with Networking. Turn your computer on and start pressing the F8 key every other second. When you see a DOS like screen slect SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING. Login to your computer and then open up your web browser and download the following products. Save all of them to a known location like your desktop.

Now install and update Spyware Doctor With Anti-Virus. The trial version will not remove anything but it will stop the infection from getting worse while we use free tools to fully remove the threat. We still recommend making the pruchase so feel free and do so and you cna be done with this guide. Once installed Spyware Doctor will try and do a scan. Stop the scan.

Then run the Smitfraudfix tool. It’s simple to use. Double click the icon and then hit the clean option. Sit back and when asked clean the registry. You do not have to worry about the temp files but you can rmeove them when asked if you like.

Now run the Vundofix tool. This will take a while to scan but it’s worth it. If it finds anything then remove what it finds.

Now install Spybot and update the program. When asked be sure to imunize your computer and make a backup of your registry. Now run the program. You may be asked to re-boot after install if so then do it. If not asked then don’t worry about it. Now run a scan and once done remove any traces found. It may take a while for the scan. Chances are Spybot will ask to run again on the next re-boot. go ahead and allow it. Re-boot your computer and let Spybot run again if asked. After it is done and you loggin in you should see a few quick flashes of DOS screens. This is Spybot removing Vundo traces. It’s a good thing!

Now re-boot into safe mode and run the Vundobegone tool. Once done ru nthe Highjack this tool. Hijack this is a very powerfull tool. It shows you what is auto starting on your computer. Rmeove only KNOWN BAD ENTIES. Keep in mind that most of the things you are looking at will be vallid programs. Those that you are unsure of Google and find out what they are.

At this piont you should be good to go. If not then as a last resort you can run this Combofix. Be sure to backup all your data first as some times it will not work and you can consider your data lost.
