I found that the only effective way of removing Vundo spyware was a reformat of my C: drive (partition) and reinstallation of Windows (vista). This was easy to do as I had a Dell recovery drive (image) and it was done in a few minutes (although I had to reinstall other software and reset settings which took some time).
Vundo is not effectively removed by big antivirus such as McAffee and Symantec. Even if you do get rid of it, your Windows OS may still be ‘broken’ and not working properly.
I wasted a lot of time before doing this trying other Vundo fixes. I did not want to purchase any of the many antispyware products as none could offer a 100% guarantee of Vundo fix with no sequelae of Windows OS damage remaining.
The advantage of a clean re-install is that everything on the PC works exceptionally well again and is something that computer users should do regularly as a part of system maintenance.
I will improve on this by getting proprietary disk image software and making and safely storing a clean disk image of all all my current OS, applications and settings, while the system is clean and running at maximum efficiency.
If you are infected with Vundo spyware, you should consider this as a solution, and get some help if you are not sure how to do a clean OS reinstall.
